Ghosts of Wrightwood - A 70s Ghost Tale (Currently Hella Open)

A place to keep all the information of the RP -- found here -- as well as a place to discuss things out of it.

The Concept:
Bongs, beer, and babes. The perfect picture of 1970s America...When you water it down, that is.

Just like any time period, the more you focus in, the more you’ll see that it wasn’t that simple. The 90s weren’t all grunge and jelly shoes. The 80s wasn’t all exercise videos and teased hair.

The 70s was a time of tension, forgotten by the drugs and sex that was used as a way to ignore it. The 70s wasn’t just a time of love and peace.

But that also doesn’t mean that there weren’t people actively hoping and striving for that.

At a small high school in Wrightwood, California, the student body is...Mixed. There’s the stoners and the jocks, the popular crowd and the outcasts, the nerds and the rich kids, and the hippies that float in and out of any combination of the six. But then there’s the group that everyone seems to forget. They’d have a name, if anyone cared enough to give them one. But no one has.

They call themselves a number of things. “Dazers.” “Lighters.” “Ghosts.”

Going through the motions of high school year after year unceasingly and watching the times change is a curse. But I guess that’s what you get for dying on the first day of your senior year.

No one had paid them mind...Until the freshman class of the 1975-76 school year.

The goal: Find the cause for the curse and a way to break it.

A rather lengthy and wordy set of rules:

+ Follow the site rules. (Clearly.)

+ Minor problems in the RP will be handled by myself, but if it is needed, I'll try to get the Staff to step in.

+ While period-typical bigotry is acceptable in the context of the RP, the same cannot be said out of the RP.

+ Check the list of acceptable content in the RP before joining.

+ Try to keep the human-ghost character ratio balanced.

+ Fully fill out the character list before submitting!

+ If your character is rejected, you have two options: take suggestions and change your character, or drop out.

+ Characters that are part of a minority are allowed, as long as you are able to play them properly.

+ There will be no super powers outside of what is normal for ghosts and/or the paranormal.

+ Absolutely no god-modding.

+ The style will be lit-paragraph, and the post minimum is three to four sentences (depending on sentence length).

+ Use your best vocabulary and grammar, please; make sure to stay true to the period!

+ A post order will eventually be created and must be followed.

+ You must have a character that is either one of the freshman that can see the Ghosts, or one of the Ghosts themselves.

+ You may have up to two characters, as long as the first one fits the rule stated above.

+ Any non-freshman/non-Ghost characters can be either in the other three grades -- since not all seniors are Ghosts, but all Ghosts are seniors -- or a faculty member.

+ Implied sexual content; just like it is stated in the rules, it cannot actually develop into the act of it

Full Name: Abingdon Dove Hamilton
Nickname(s): Abbie
Human or Ghost?: Ghost
Race/Ethnicity: Mixed, w/b
Age: 19 (17 when he died)
Grade: Senior when he died
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Personality: Rather energetic and good-natured. Easily grows fond of and attached to people. Handles disappointment well.
Appearance: Warm, mid-toned skin. Wavy and smooth brown hair. Dull green eyes that always look like they’re smiling. He has two grins: one that cuts like a knife, and one that looks like it’s been kissed by the sun.
Sexuality: Unknown
Back story blurb: Abbie’s mother took part in the Civil Rights Movement in the ‘60s and didn’t end up surviving. His father then had to take care of teenaged Abbie on his own. It was hard for quite some time, knowing that he went to school with the kids of people who’d wanted his mother dead, but he pushed through. At the start-of-the-year senior party, he got incredibly wasted along with some of his other classmates, and after an unfortunate hook-up, found himself dead by the hands of one of his peers.
Fun fact: Abbie’s a big ol’ flirt, and doesn’t care who it is he’s hitting on. He’ll sweet talk anybody, though he’s careful about flirting with other guys.

-----

Full Name: Mona Tatianna Cruz
Nickname(s): Tati
Human or Ghost?: Human
Race/Ethnicity: Latina
Age: 14
Grade: Freshman
Gender: Female
Pronouns: She/Her
Personality: Tati appears to be rather sullen on the outside, but she’s just quiet. She’s very loving, loyal, and protective.
Appearance: Warm, dark tan. Long curly, black hair. Thick eyebrows. Warm honey-brown eyes. A small, delicate, soft smile.
Sexuality: Questioning
Back story blurb: Tati’s family slowly immigrated to the US, chasing after something spiritual, and have only just settled. There is still plenty of her family back in Mexico sending their best wishes. When she first noticed the Ghosts, and the lack of recognition of them, she thought she was only seeing them because she had psychic blood in her. Her father’s rarely at home due to constantly working, so she was almost strictly raised by the women of the house.
Fun fact: The women in Tati’s family have all been witches or psychics, and have taught her various different spells, barriers, and enchantments to protect herself and help others.

Full Name: David Olson
Nickname(s): Ollie (Only Jason calls him this)
Human or Ghost?: Human
Race/Ethnicity: White
Age: 15
Grade: Freshman
Gender: Male
Personality: A shy character, David appears often standoffish. The rough glare he wears on a daily basis ensures the distance from other that he doesn't want too close. David is absorbed in his music and poetry, being both an avid guitarist, and lyricist. His father has taught him about cars, as he is expected to inherit the family business, but he is unenthusiastic, and is regarded as something of a clumsy failure by his parents. He is pretty insecure about himself, and feels like an outcast from the rest of society, an outsider looking in. David has a lot of difficulty expressing himself in a normal way, and ends up getting into a lot of trouble, either by doing something he isn't supposed to, or doing something he really isn't supposed to.

Honestly, David began noticing ghosts when he first started going to Wrightwood. Who knows why. Maybe its just that he could identify with them, outsiders, never really noticed, never really cared about. However, he pretends not to. He doesn't want to be looked at as more of a freak than he already is, and he is pretty terrified of being thought of as crazy. Maybe he is crazy? He isn't really sure.

Appearance: Shaggy, slightly greasy, light brown hair over a somewhat zit-splattered face. He has bright blue eyes, that are in stark contrast to his dark thick eyebrows. He wears a tie-dye t-shirt, over loose jeans held up by a rainbow belt, and finished with a standard red pair of converse. Around his neck is a peace symbol (he is really into the Peace and Love movement), and hidden under shirt sleeve is a red, yellow, and green armband, that no one really sees.
Back story blurb: While he grew up in a mechanics household, David has a deep-seated love for music and spends a lot of time playing hooky and going to concerts. His understanding of the mechanical realm is fledgling at best, and he is often chastised and looked down upon by those around him. His single light in the day is Jason, who is his best friend, and fellow hell raiser. They can often be found together scheming mischief or sneaking off to concerts.
Fun fact: David has a full set of the schools keys that he collected by stealing a janitors set of keys and making molds using a mold set in his locker. His ability to make mischief, has now reached an all time peak.

Full Name: Jason Powell
Nickname(s): Jay
Human or Ghost?: Human
Race/Ethnicity: Caucasian
Age: 15
Grade: Freshman
Gender: Male
Personality: Bubbly and a little preppy. He is an intelligent sort, with a penchant for literature. He additionally excels in maths, though it is pushed heavily by his parents and is a bit of a sore spot. His familial focus on academic success and studious overwork has left him with a quiet, rebellious streak through which he expresses his frustrations and angst with glee. He's a closet rebel. His partner in crime and best friend, David, is something of a bad influence in this light, though not always the mastermind behind all of their schemes. He's an eclectic music junkie and full of energy. Perhaps caffeine isn't the only way to be 'high on life.'
Appearance: Jay comes to Wrightwood with a dirty blonde, up side-comb style which he quickly dishevels lightly upon arrival. He generally clothes his 5'6" frame in variations of plaid. White and blue wide-set plaid blazer over a white collared shirt and blue tie, paired with deep red, bell-bottomed jeans and cream converse. A chunky silver watch with a peace sign scratched into its back adorns his left wrist.
Sexuality: We'll assume he's cis and straight.
Back story blurb: Jay comes from a family with high-expectations and is regularly drafted into extra-curricular and college-prep classes. He often uses these as excuses and slips away with his friend David to concerts and other gigs. The excuse of a 'study partner' can also be used to extend curfew most nights as well. While nervous at first to graduate to Wrightwood, he has quickly accumulated a crowd of friends through is upbeat demeanor. He didn't see the ghosts at first. But he heard them. He'd excused himself from a study hall period to meet up with David, when he heard them conversing in the hall. While he had hurried on, noting the empty wall of lockers, he began musing about the possibilities. Eventually, after much focus, the forgotten ones began to fade into view.
Fun fact: Jay harbors a great dislike of ice cream -he is lactose intolerant. (But lollipops are the bestest things!)

They're both very nice characters! I like them and their dynamic. There's already ideas floating around in my head that I like with these four characters alone. I'm gonna give it a week -- I think that's a good amount of time -- to see if there's anyone else interested, and then we can start if y'all are ready!

Yo!!! It's been a week, meaning the "wait" period is over. Even if it's only three of us, I think that it'll work out fine. We've got four characters that are all different from each other.

So, I think it's time to set the post order. I think it would make the most sense to just go in order of character posting, meaning it would go: caffeinatedCreep (which is the usual normally, cause I have to kick it off), LastDance, and then Rain. If y'all are alright with that, then we can start once I've heard from you both!
